Philanthropist and Businessman

Dato’ N.T.S. Arumugam Pillai was a well known philanthropist and businessman, who owned several plantation estates in the north-western region of Peninsular Malaysia. He is mostly remembered for contributions made towards the welfare of the public. As a former Penang state chief of Malaysian Indian Congress, he was an influential figure in the party’s ranks. He was a generous contributor for the development of holy shrines, schools and welfare homes in the states of Kedah, Perak and Penang. There are several temples and halls in these states that were built on lands that were donated by him.Today there is even a road named after him in Bukit Mertajam, Penang (Jalan Arumugam Pillai).
